COI Disaster Relief Program

Since the Gulf Coast Hurricanes of 2005, Christian Outreach International has been actively involved in Disaster Relief and Crisis Response world-wide. COI is always prayerfully pursuing a plan to provide aid to churches, believer's and needy areas that are affected by crisis.

Over the years, COI Disaster Response has become efficient in mobilizing volunteers and response teams (over 1,200 people to date), food, medical supplies, resources, or funds directly to victims of disaster. Our success is due in part to our strong relationships with proven, trusted, partner organizations, relief organizations, and local churches that are directly involved and influencing hard hit areas.

We can get results because as a smaller, hands-on organization we are able to see to it that donated funds, teams and resources are applied directly to the project we are focusing on and that the funds become effective in the field as quickly as possible. We have found that because we work with savvy, well-equipped local churches and ministries sometimes the needs of people can be satisfied more efficiently than through large cumbersome organizations.

We do not have a bureaucracy, large salaries or red tape in our projects. We do our best to keep the project costs down, even though Disaster Response takes a lot of time to organize and execute. Our policy is industry standard, that only up to 10% will be used for administrative costs.

COI has responded to hurricanes in the Gulf Coast, and Galveston, TX. We have also responded to floods in Northern Canada, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and earthquakes in Peru, and most recently the Haitian devastation.

As a team, the Disaster Response division of COI is committed to serving the world's crisis events and traumatized people with relief, comfort and justice.

Consider the feedback from some of our previous Disaster Response efforts:

“Christian Outreach International has been instrumental in providing assistance to the Gulf Coast Region during the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The ministry is biblical sound and utilizes godly wisdom in providing needful resources. The ministry is well-organized and many people have benefited from the hard work that has been done by those within this vital ministry. Christian Outreach International works toward addressing immediate needs and I fully endorse and applaud the leaders and the work that has been done to aid in the viability and vitality of the communities in our region and beyond." —Pastor Willie Wooten, New Orleans

"Waking up to this morning's news of Japan's earthquake and the impending tsunami's takes my thoughts to COI Disaster Response, COI Director Scott, and the many COI volunteers. I recall the efforts they  offered in rebuilding our lives and homes on the gulf coast in after Hurricane Katrina.  I am forever grateful to Christian Outreach International. I am not alone; many others from the lower south Alabama/Bayou La Batre area are thankful as well. COI did not forget me, or out community and continued to offer prayer and much needed support in rebuilding our homes and lives long after the storm.  In prayer for the people affected by the earthquake and tsunami's. God bless all COI teams located throughout the world, may you all be blessed in abundance."—Sonya Land, AL

"COI has truly been a blessing. The ministry of your organization has blessed many people in the area. The length of your stay has made your organization stand out above others. Thank you for your ministry during the recovery of Hurricane Katrina."—Pastor Steve Smith, Bayou La Batre, AL
